Get Moving with Elmo: Making Healthy Habits Part of Playtime

Elmo Move Healthy Habits Game for Kids

Move with Elmo invites children and caregivers to get up and get moving together. The Children’s Games Team at Workinman Interactive collaborated with Sesame Workshop to craft the game, combining expressive animation, voice, and playful exercise in an experience built for young players.

The release is part of Sesame Street for Military Families’ 20th anniversary, joining a new collection of free resources that help military families build healthy routines and spend time together.

Healthy Habits Start with Play

Movement matters for growing kids, and play gives families an easy place to start. A little activity between everyday tasks can become something children look forward to, especially when a cheerful red monster joins in. We wanted exercise to feel like a natural part of play, with Elmo’s personality and encouragement helping families turn small, active moments into regular habits.

Players guide Elmo on a walk through the park, discovering things that inspire movement and imaginative play. A bunny along the trail becomes the perfect excuse to hop, hop, hop. Naturally, players are invited to hop along. Each run of the game brings 5 random exercise sets for kids to do, all inspired by objects and critters Elmo finds along his walk. From tiptoeing past a sleeping squirrel to dancing freestyle to the musical boom box, there’s always something new and fun to do and a solid chance to work up a sweat.

Sesame Street Exercise Game for Kids

Each completed set of exercises earns a new sticker. At the end of the walk, players arrange their stickers to create a coloring page they can print and color, carrying the fun beyond the screen.

For Workinman, that connection is central to designing games that support children’s health and learning. The fun has to carry the experience. We want kids to come back for another walk with Elmo and take that playful curiosity into their own day, finding new reasons to move wherever they are.

Making Room for Everyone to Play

Much of Workinman’s effort went into making the game feel lively and welcoming while keeping it accessible.

Expressive animation and rich voice work give the experience the warmth and personality of a cartoon. Elmo draws children into each activity, making an invitation to exercise feel like time spent playing with a friend.

Bringing that personality to lower-end devices takes careful optimization. Animation and audio need to stay lightweight without losing their charm. Our work focused on preserving the game’s character and energy while keeping it running smoothly on less powerful hardware.

Accessibility design in children's games

Accessibility also shaped how players take part. Along with making the game easy for young children to follow, we considered differences in mobility and physical ability. Elmo presents a low-impact alternative for every exercise, giving players options for joining in with movements that work for them.

Years of Making Play Work

Move with Elmo continues a collaboration that includes Sesame Street Nature Explorers and Inside, Outside with Bert & Ernie. Each gives children something new to explore, from investigating animal clues to discovering activities they can try at home.

With roughly two decades of experience, Workinman Interactive creates family and educational games, connected toy experiences, and interactive exhibits. Our team brings game design, art, animation, audio, and development together, with a long history of working with Sesame Workshop and properties from Disney, Nickelodeon, and Fisher-Price.

We help partners turn characters, learning goals, and healthy habits into games children want to return to. Move along with Elmo here.
