The NCZoo app features a powerful geolocation engine paired with a detailed digital map that shows your location within the Zoo. As you wander the grounds, the app delivers content tailored to your immediate surroundings, ensuring you never miss an opportunity to learn more about the animals, habitats, and dining options nearby.
Virtual Tour Guides to Expand Your View
Sometimes, the best sights and stories lie just beyond the zoo pathways. The app’s virtual tour guides deliver stunning videos of habitats and animals, sharing sounds and insights that visitors might otherwise miss. Thanks to geolocation technology, the app serves these immersive experiences based on your location, inviting you to see and understand more with every step. All videos are available in English and Spanish, with closed-captioning for the hearing impaired.
Accessible Audio Tours for All Visitors
Accessibility is at the heart of this project. The NCZoo app offers audio-described tours designed specifically for visitors who are blind or have low vision. With geolocation-triggered audio content and compatibility with device screen readers, navigating the Zoo is easier and more enjoyable for everyone.
Engaging K-12 STEM EdZOOcation Activities
For students and families, the app brings STEM learning to life with grade-specific EdZOOcation activities aligned to educational standards. Covering topics from survival adaptations and evolution to physics and water chemistry, students can explore these fascinating subjects interactively while engaging with real exhibits at the Zoo. Each course features colorful environments, animated animals, engaging mini-games, and thought-provoking trivia.
Step Into a STEM Career with Career Quests
The app’s STEM Career Quests invite users to role-play as a virtual Zookeeper, Veterinarian, Horticulturist, Conservation Biologist, or Animal Behaviorist. Through AR-driven tasks, job-themed minigames, and scenario-based challenges, students get a first-hand look at what it takes to work in these exciting STEM fields—all while following along with real zoo duties.
